Camino Day 1 - September 7

Day one took us from St. Jean Pied de Port in the Pyrenees Mountains in France to Roncevalles in Spain. Two words: Bru-tal..  Here are some numbers: 27.1 km walked.. 1200m ascended through a mountain pass.. 29 degrees.. 99 percent relative humidity.. 5 litres of water consumed.. 0 bathroom breaks necessary.. at least a million litres of sweat.. 11 1/2 hours of travel time, including a few stops.. It was an arduous journey, much of it in the heat of the day, and in open sun.. BUT, the scenery was incredible, and there were lots of animals roaming around - horses, cows, sheep - all wearing bells..  It was hot, and the climbing was so hard, but the sense of accomplishment was huge.. I almost cried when we arrived at the albergue - hostel - and almost cried again when the hospitalero - volunteer - greeted us at the entrance and said "good news, we have a bed for you"..  We slept in bunk beds in a big open room.. Lots of snoring, lots of wet clothes smell, but a bed, and a fairly good night sleep.. It was a hard day, but this journey is AMAZING.. We met lots of good people on this first day.. Now, on to day two..

Blessings to you all
